Cody Mathews

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of Cody Ryan Mathews’ passing at the tender age of 29. On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, the community of Mosheim, Texas, felt a profound loss as Cody departed from this world.

Born to Gary Mathews and Rita Gott on April 22, 1994, in Garland, Texas, Cody was a beacon of joy in the lives of those who knew him. Cody’s journey through life was shared with his beloved wife, Celina Franco, who had been his sweetheart since their high school days. Together for 12 years, they built a family and raised two wonderful sons, Caiden and Callan Mathews.

Cody’s memory will be treasured by his grandfathers, James Mathews and Charles Gott, his siblings—Tiffany Austin, Chrystal Martin, Brandon Mathews, and Derek Mathews—and a loving circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was welcomed into the next life by his Nanny Velma Mathews and grandmother Beverly Birdwell, who preceded him in passing.

A proud graduate of Valley Mills High School in 2013, Cody was a valued team member at Southern Glazier’s in Waco, Texas. His role as a husband and father was imbued with love and an unwavering commitment to his children. Cody’s radiant smile and generous spirit were his hallmarks; he was always reaching out to check on others. His passions included golfing, hunting, and sharing memorable moments with his dad and brothers during football games. Four-wheeling and outdoor cooking were among the many activities he enjoyed with his family. Cody’s zest for life, his laughter, and his love for bringing joy to every gathering will be sorely missed. His departure from us came far too soon.

We will honor Cody’s life with funeral services at 11 A.M. on Monday, December 4, 2023, at the First Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest at Valley Mills Cemetery, with arrangements entrusted to Foss Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation from 2-4 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers are Brandon Mathews, Derek Mathews, Jeremy McCormick, Mario Franco, Matt Green, and Russ Nelson. In our hearts, Cody will forever remain a guiding light of love, laughter, and family unity.
